Hobbs the Printers has become the
first UK company to install Autobond’s latest Mini-TPH 52X74
laminator. A modified version of the Mini T 52X74 launched at Drupa,
the laminator has replaced the Stahl suction drum feeder with a new
Heidelberg rising pile back separation, increasing productivity by 30%.
Graham Bromley, production manager for Hobbs, said: “We had
discussions with Autobond at Drupa to change the feeder to a Heidelberg
Speedmaster 52 feed head. This has increased productivity
dramatically.”
The Totton company said the TP, which replaced a six-year-old D&K
27, has a massive nip of six tonnes, allowing it to laminate difficult
substrates. Autobond said it can handle matt or gloss polypropylene and
acetate thermal film ranging from 115gsm to 450gsm.
Autobond’s managing director John Gilmore said : “This
laminator is perfectly aimed for the short to medium run B2 market. The
new model simply further enhances these attributes with even faster
turnround of high quality laminating.”
Hobbs, which installed the machine three weeks ago, said it has been
able to produce litho book and journal covers at 7,500 an hour every
day. “We are extremely pleased with the laminator. Not only is it
fast but it has the robust and strong build that Autobond is famous
for.”
Although the company has specified the machine to laminate one side,
the new TP can come as perfecting, due to an extra rubber roller.
Autobond will be demonstrating the TP H52X74 at Northprint as well as
its new Mini TP H76 designed to handle both Brand B2 sheets.
