The Pemco hosted SHM Workshop, held October 30 through November 1 in
Sheboygan, was an event planned to be more than a round-table
discussion. As the carefully designed agenda would indicate, the three
day event was envisioned as an opportunity to broaden and inspire a
sense of community between manufacturer and sales representatives.
“It’s to educate them so that they can sell the
equipment
better to meet the customers’ needs.” As said by
Jeff
Vogel, vice president of technical sales and production,
“It’s absolutely important because we do all of our
sales
through outside sales agents.” Bottom line, the Pemco sales
team
intended to show the KPL sales team, as well as its international
network of sales agents, the capabilities of not just the machinery,
but also the competence of machine technicians, engineers and
technical sales personnel.
With attendees representing North America, Germany, England, Russia,
Japan, India, Korea, Indonesia and Australia, hopes were high these
markets would share and compare the needs of their customers with the
other regions, and identify ways to meet those needs. Product and
design presentations were followed by candid open-floor exchanges of
ideas. The opportunity to pose suggestions face-to-face with the
manufacturer was a clear benefit of the workshop. Using a sheeter bound
for the Indonesian market, and jointly sold by sales reps from Pemco
International (Thetford, UK) and KPL Far East (Tangerang, Indonesia),
an in-house machine demonstration by Pemco technicians offered a
reduced-speed demo of sheeter operation and production. “In
order
to sell the product, you’ve got to have a clear understanding
of
its benefits and limitations,” said John Finlayson, European
sales manager of Pemco International.
The second day was highlighted by an afternoon field trip to a
Wisconsin paper converter customer utilizing a recent SHM 1450DR-HS
sheeter. A facility tour was followed with the chance to watch the
sheeter at work in a production setting. To end the road trip on a
casual note, the group was entertained with a tour of historic Lambeau
Field, home of the Green Bay Packers football team.
From all accounts, the commitment made to host and attend such an event
certainly was worth it. According to Jason Lutzke, Pemco’s
SHM
product manager, “bringing the salespeople in from all over
the
world also gives them a chance to see the
machinery up close and in operation, which isn’t
always possible.”
